With team and individual accolades on the line, Gatesville High will host the District 17-4A cross country meet here Monday. Running begins at 9:30 a.m. east of McKamie Stadium near the Methodist Church. High School teams will compete in the morning (Varsity girls at 9:30, Varsity boys at 10, JV girls at 10:30, JV boys at 11 a.m.), while Junior High teams will run in the afternoon (7th-8th girls at 4, 7th-8th boys at 4:30 PM). In the varsity divisions, Gatesville will be among the top team contenders in both races. The Hornet girls will try to defend their team title won a year ago, during which two individuals (Jordan Brock and Katrina Thoms) advanced to the state meet. Brock now runs for the University of Central Arkansas, while Thoms has been the GHS girls' top finisher in all seven meets so far this fall. The Hornet boys are hoping to better their fourth-place district showing last year. While their team did not advance beyond the 17-4A meet, returnees Riley McClure and Baylee Ivy advanced to regional with Top 10 places.
