After a sluggish first two quarters, Gatesville found the end zone on four straight drives in the second half to down Robinson 42-20 here Friday night in the non-district closer for both teams. It was the fifth-straight win for the Hornets, who are 5-0 heading into next week's bye week. Gatesville's defense helped set up the first GHS score, stopping Robinson on an early fourth-down play. Two plays later, quarterback Jett Truss (19-of-28 passing, 265 yards) found Will Carroll on a 29-yard scoring strike for a quick 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. Robinson kicked a field goal later in the quarter to narrow the gap, but GHS responded in the second stanza following another fourth-down stop by the defensive hatters This time, the offense took reins at its own 39 yard line, assembling a nifty six-play scoring march punctuated by Truss' seven-yard scamper into the end zone. GHS scored on only two of its six possessions in the first 24 minutes, but the Hornet offense revved its engines after intermission. An early miscue led to Robinson's second field goal, but from there Gatesville reached paydirt on its next four possessions. All four teedees came on the ground - Truss had a three-yard run, Zach Mueller (11-110 yards rushing, 5-65 receiving) scored on runs of 18 and five yards, and T.J. Miller added a seven-yard zip. After next week's bye week, Gatesville begins District 13-4A play October 13 at Lampasas.
