Gatesville High will close the non-district portion of its schedule at home this week, as the Hornets host former league foe Robinson Friday night. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at McKamie Stadium. "Should be anothewr interesting matchup for our kids," said Gatesville coach Kyle Cooper. "Robinson presents some challenges that we have not yet faced so far this season." After losing its first two games to Taylor (28-27) and Lampasas (67-62), Robinson has notched victories over Troy (34-28) and Athens (34-20) in its last two outings to even its season record at 2-2. The Rockets, like last year, rely on a high-scoring offense to outscore their opposition. "They are potent and effective," Cooper said. "They have some playmakers. They are also very well-skilled in the kicking game, which is definitely a concern for us." Gatesville has been unblemished so far in 2017, marching to four consecutive wins and outscoring its opponents 149-67. The latest notch was a 31-7 rout of Hillsboro last week, in which GHS built a 31-0 cushion in the first half. After this week, Gatesville and all District 13-4A member schools take a week off before league play begins October 13.
