Football - Sat, Sep. 23, 2017

Gatesville continued its winning ways Friday night, doing all of its damage in the first half en route to an easy 31-7 win over Hillsboro.  The Hornets were relentless in the game's first two quarters, producing five scoring drives and building a 31-0 cushion by halftime.  Jett Truss was 16-of-26 passing for 337 yards, connecting with Derrick Bayer six times for 175 yards, including an inside screen that resulted in a 66-yard touchdown just minutes into the game.  Before the quarter ended, Anthony Costas (6-34 rushing) scored on a nine-yard run and David Saldivar drilled a 34-yard field goal for a 17-0 lead.  In the second period, Truss connected on teedee passes to Will Carroll (4-yard TD) and Anthony Costas (3-82 receiving), whose 56-yard romp included four broken tackles down the left sideline.  The Hornet offense finished with 20 first downs and 492 total yards.  Zach Mueller added 47 yards on seven totes, while Tyler Lewis had three grabs for 48 yards receiving.  Defensively, GHS yielded only 10 first downs and 175 yards offense.  Top tacklers were Owen Sibley (10 tackles, 2 for loss, 2 sacks), Austin Bayer (10), Will Carroll (9), Jalun Taylor (8), Bailey Janisch (7) and Max Bartlett (7).  Now unbeaten in its first four outings, Gatesville will close the non-district portion of its schedule here Friday against Robinson (7:30 PM, McKamie Stadium).
