Gatesville High overcame a sluggish start, rallying from two sets down to defeat Hillsboro 3-2 Friday night in district play. After dropping the first two sets 10-25, 23-25, the Hornets reeled off set wins of 25-22, 26-24, 15-7. "It was darn sure not pretty, actually ugly at times," said Gatesville coach Rickey Phillips. "But, our kids never quit. They fought themselves out of a corner and found a way to win." Stat leaders: Aces - Lina Hoti three, Jill Truss two; Assists - Truss 40; Digs - Carlee Duncan 10, Daci Segraves eight, Hoti eight, Truss six; Kills - Sage Carson 22, Sydney Mundkowsky 11, Maci Matthews 10, Marlee Ward four; Blocks - Carson three. With the win, Gatesville improves to 20-10 overall and 4-1 in 17-4A. The Hornets host league-leading here Tuesday (9th Grade at 5, JV at 6, Varsity at 7 p.m.). In sub=-varsity action Friday night, JV downed Hillsboro 25-23, 25-19, while 9th Grade won 26-24, 25-19.
