Gatesville High entries posted top-five team finishes during Friday's Temple High Early Bird Invite. It was the first meet of the season for GHS, which came in third in the boy's division and fifth overall in the girl's field. The GHS boys accumulated 80 points, finishing behind only Academy (59) and Salado (78). Riley McClure and Baylee Ivy medaled by placing fifth and sixth with times of 17:51 and 18:08 respectively. Other Hornet results: Miles Barnes 21st (19:43), Aaron James 24th (19:55), Humberto Paredes 29th (20:13). The GHS girls totaled 127 points for their fifth-place spot, finishing behind meet-champion Holy Trinity Catholic (50 points), Salado (98), Hamilton (108) and Troy (118). Katrina Thoms posted a time of 13:54 to finish fifth overall. Other GHS results: Kiana Taff 17th (14:57), Caitlin Chacon 18th (14:59), Ashton Gribble 51st (16:48), Cadence Smalley 54th (17:11), Sydney Gilbreath 56th (17:23). Gatesville's next outing comes August 25 in the Belton Invitational.
