Gatesville High's Jordan Brock will make one last stopover in the state capital this weekend, as the senior competes in the UIL Class 4A state meet for the fourth year in a row. Brock, one of the state's top mid-distance runners in her classification, qualified in the 800 and 400 meters. The state meet will be held Saturday evening at Mike A. Myers Stadium on campus of the University of Texas at Austin. The 800-meter race begins at 6:20 p.m., while the 400 meters starts at approximately 7:45 p.m. Brock, a University of Central Arkansas signee, has been a state-meet regular each year in high school. She ran legs on the Hornets' mile relay squads in 2013 and 2014 and has been a state qualifier in the 800 meters for the last three seasons. Her best finish in the two-lap race was a bronze-medal showing last spring. So far this season, Brock has set the pace among Class 4A runners in her specialties. In the 800 meters, she has lost only once in seven meets and has a season-best time of 2:16. She has the fastest state-qualifying time but will have some chasers among the nine-runner race. In the 400 meters, she has won four gold medals and three silver medals, with her season-best time of 57.80 ranking among the top in 4A.
