HFND...Hornet Fight Never Dies
Gatesville ISD student-athletes and coaches are involved in many community, charity and fund-raising activities in Gatesville and throughout this area as well as donating time at the other GISD campuses. It's our way of giving back to a community that is always supportive of our programs and athletes. Below are some examples of the extra time set aside by our athletes to help with worthy causes.
Coach Fowler Fund-Raiser (click for photos)
The GHS Hornet boy's basketball team held an Alumni Game fund-raiser for Ken Fowler, a Gatesville ISD teacher and ex-coach recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. The event included a barbecue lunch, basketball game and auction. Coach Fowler passed away last March.
Dream Makers at Christmas Time (click for photos)
Several sports teams, as well as other GHS clubs and organizations, purchase Christmas gifts for pre-selected GISD young children. Those gifts are presented during a special Dream Maker event held prior to the holidays. Besides the gifts, the young ones are given treats and get the opportunity to visit Santa Claus.
Bell-ringers for Salvation Army (click for photos)
Most GHS athletic teams take a night to serve as bell-ringers for the Salvation Army during a two-week span prior to the Christmas holidays. This tradition was started three years ago and includes athletes as well as coaches.
Morning Greeters at Lower Campuses (click for photos)
Hornet football players serve as morning greeters at lower campusesa on Hornet Fridays. The players are stationed at the Primary, Elementary and Intermediate schools to greet students on those days.
